PSVP MARATHON RELAY TEAM FINISHES STRONG!!!
The Pittsburgh Marathon is back! 10,500 runners or 21,000 pair of legs ran 26 miles yesterday.
Check this out — http://results.active.com/pages/oneResult.jsp?pID=56036124&rsID=77431 The PSVP Marathon relay team came in 218 out of 484. I lead of the relay team running the first 7.1 miles. I did pretty good, but I have to admit, at one point early on I got psyched out and thought I might not make it.
Our second leg was run by Ann D’Appalonia (our ringer — she use to run cross country). Here is what Ann had to say “Hi Team, Hope that you all had fun yesterday!! My relay leg went well… the Forbes hill was tough… but otherwise it was a fun experience. How did everyone else feel? Thanks for welcoming me to the team. Would love to do it again next year!”
Erin Queen, our Partner Education chair and ice skating champ, ran the third leg. Here is what Erin had to say, “We came in #218 out of 484 relay teams and if we had not lost 5 mins due to Nina and i not finding each other, we would have finished below 200! Great job!”
Our final leg was run by a partner want-to-be Nina Margiotta from RMU. Here is what Nina had to say, “Good morning everyone! I agree with Anne — the race yesterday was so much fun. It was nice to see so many runners and to see the city’s neighborhoods come to life. My leg of the race went very well, although it was tough to see some of runners who couldn’t make it. One guy’s hamstring ruptured as I passed him on the course — ouch! The only trouble spot was at the juncture where Erin and I made the exchange. Relay runners for the last leg were about 10-12 deep at the turn waiting for their teammates. It was tough to see (I didn’t see Erin when she initially came in). A very tall runner was trying to help me, but he took off for his leg before Erin arrived. Best laid plans, huh? In any case, we finished and that’s what matters. I’m up for doing this next year, too! We made a great team. Have a wonderful day!”
I also ran into one of our Partners, Bethany Davis at the start line. That crazy woman was running the entire marathon. I felt like a real wimp. Way to go Bethany.
Next year, PSVP will be running at least 3 relay teams.
